Dr Carol Johnson
The research and work of Dr Carol Johnson (The University of Melbourne, Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Australia) is situated within the nexus of educational technologies, online pedagogy and music performance. Most recently, her research has evidenced the current exponential increase of online music course offerings at the undergraduate level and the need need for a paradigmatic shift for music instructors, students, and policy makers when developing online music teaching methods.
Bridging the teaching and learning aspects of online music pedagogy, Johnson’s research surfaces pedagogical guidelines and strategies to develop and re-design online music courses along with ancillary studies that address online student motivation through active, participatory learning and multimedia tools.
Her recent publications include the co-edited research book “Pedagogy development for teaching music online” (2018), as well as articles in the London Review of Education, International Review of Research in Online and Distributed Learning (IRRODL), and other journals, book and publications.
