Dr Amanda Tattersall
Amanda Tattersall is the Host of ChangeMakers Podcast, urban geographer at Sydney University and an internationally recognised scholar and community organiser. Amanda has an Arts (Hons) /Law (Hons) Degree, and won the University Medal for Law at the University of Technology Sydney. She was been the President of the National Union of Students (NSW Branch) in 1999, co-founder of GetUp.org.au and co-founded Labor for Refugees in 2001.
In 2004, Amanda began a PhD through the University of Sydney on coalition building between community organisations, religious organisations and unions. Between 2005-2007 she lived in the United States as a Visiting Fellow at Cornell University’s Industrial and Labor Relations School. On returning to Australia in 2007 Amanda founded the Sydney Alliance, bringing to Australia a new way of connecting communities – called community organising. Amanda was the Executive Director of the Alliance for nine years. She is now three years in to a Post Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Sydney researching organising the 21st Century City, exploring the strengths and weaknesses of coalitions like the Sydney Alliance across the world. She is also a research lead and the education lead for the Sydney Policy Lab at the University of Sydney.
Amanda founded the ChangeMakers Podcast, a podcast that shares stories about people trying to change the world. ChangeMakers has had over 500 000 downloads. She also does ad hoc consultancy with NGOs on issues of organisational transformation and community organising, with a focus on climate change.
