As a storyteller, Kamini Ramachandran’s tools of trade are her voice, her body and her vast knowledge of oral traditions from Southeast Asia. In this strange new world we live in today, she finds that she and her other artists friends have to adapt their practices, but yet, solidarity and support for one another never waver. Kamini talks about how she keeps her audiences engaged and making sure that they don’t forget the arts.

Kamini Ramachandra
Kamini Ramachandra
Kamini Ramachandran grew up with a grandfather who was a storyteller and inherited his repertoire of traditional tales and family stories. Growing up in the remote jungles of Malaysia, she spent a lot of time reading and also listening to stories from her teachers. Fluent in the Malay language, and with a South Indian ancestry, she is known for her strong Asian repertoire of folklore.
Through Moonshadow Stories, she pioneered storytelling for adult audiences in Singapore. Kamini has been commissioned by The Esplanade, Singapore International Festival of Arts, Arts House Limited to produce storytelling experiences for a diverse range of audiences.
A seasoned storyteller, Kamini has performed at international festivals in Rome, Belgium, Scotland, Wales, England, India, Ireland, Dubai, Malaysia and more. She has performed at The Southbank Centre, inside tents, under banyan trees, on rooftops, concert halls and more places enthralling both children and adults alike. She is also Creative Producer of StoryFest: International Storytelling Festival Singapore.
