With a career spanning 30 years, Cat has pioneered critically acclaimed artworks and contributed to the careers of many practicing artists.
Cat is an artist, writer, director and curator whose work spans performance, text, image making, responsive technology, body illusion, olfaction and edible art. She has a particular interest in creating immersive, participatory and site-responsive works resulting in transformative experiences for audiences.
Cat has been commissioned and presented by Sydney Festival, Performance Space, Vitalstatistix, The WIRED Lab, Proximity Festival, ANAT. She has performed, collaborated with and been supported by experimental companies including pvi collective, Blast Theory, SymbioticA, fo.am, The League of Imaginary Scientists, Playworks and MAAS Powerhouse as a Creative Industries. Resident. Cat was Artistic Director and CEO of PACT centre for emerging artists, and Co-director of Electrofringe.
Cat’s work investigates neuroscience, the natural world, social constructs and speculative futures through immersive experiences. Her work, ‘Century’s Breath’ received the Sadakichi Art and Olfaction award from the Institute of Art and Olfaction.
Her practice impacts many other fields of research including health and medicine. Cat’s work with Australian neuroscientists to investigate chronic pain and research into plant signalling have had significant impacts on human understanding of our relationship with the world around us.
Cat Jones is the 2021 recipient of the Australia Council Award for Emerging and Experimental Arts.
