Recipient of the 2022 Arts Access Australia’s National Leadership
Rafeif Ismail (She/They) is an emerging award-winning, multilingual creative living in Boorloo (Perth), in Western Australia.
Rafeif is deeply committed to creating diverse works, spaces and ethical storytelling. Her practice includes poetry, prose, creative non-fiction, theatre and screenwriting.
Her work has been translated and published in anthologies and literary magazines across Australia and internationally.
Rafeif has worked throughout her career to capacity-build FNPOC (First Nations and People of Colour) voices within the sector. She was a participant in the 2020 AFTRS National Talent Camp and the 2021 Equity Foundation Screen Diversity Showcase. In 2022, Rafeif was shortlisted for the SBS Emerging Writers’ Incubator program (WA). She is featured in the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG) Pathways Program. Rafeif has been shortlisted for many prestigious awards, including the 2019 Western Australian Writers Fellowship (2020) and longlisted for internationally coveted programs such as Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative for 2023-2024 (2021).
Rafeif’s most recent project – a pathway of accessible, multilingual publication for debut and emerging FNPOC voices – was as creator and co-editor of Unlimited Futures, Australia’s first Blak & Blac speculative fiction anthology, published by Fremantle Press and Djed Press in 2022.
Rafeif is the current Managing Director of Djed Press, a community arts organisation and literary platform.
