Mr Myer holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Arts from the University of Cambridge, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Mr Myer was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2005 in recognition of his service to the arts and for his support of museums, galleries, and the community and he was honoured in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday honours list with an Officer of the Order of Australia medal.
Mr Myer serves as a non-executive Chairman and Director of a number of public, private, community and government entities. His background includes serving in roles in the retail and property sector, investment, family office and wealth management services and community sector. Mr Myer is a Director of AMCIL Limited, Healthscope Limited and eCargo Holdings Ltd and a board member of Jawun Indigenous Corporate Partnerships and The Yulgilbar Foundation. He is also Chairman of The Aranday Foundation and a member of the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Business and Economics Advisory Board.
Mr Myer has a long and distinguished connection with arts and culture, and is in the unique position of being the only person to have been Chair of both the National Gallery of Australia and the Australia Council. He is also a former Chair of the Opera Australia Capital Fund, Kaldor Public Art Projects and the Contemporary Visual Arts and Craft Inquiry, and past Board Member of Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and National Gallery of Victoria.
