Tim Cox AO

Tim Cox was born and educated in Melbourne where he gained a Bachelor of Commerce at Melbourne University. He commenced work with ARC Engineering Pty Ltd, Australia’s largest supplier of steel reinforcing and weldmesh products for the building and agricultural industries. In 1975 he left ARC to undertake his master’s degree at UNSW and create his own public relations company.

In 1984 Tim joined the Board of The Australian Ballet, becoming Chairman for four years from 1995. During that time a great deal of change occurred at all levels in the ballet community. Communications to all stakeholders became extremely important and many other business techniques started being introduced to ballet companies.

Soon afterward, Tim was approached by John Bell, one of Australia’s most infamous theatre personalities, and offered him Chair of Bell Shakespeare. Tim remained as Chair for six years, introducing many commercial improvements for the company over this time.

From Tim’s suggestion that all performing arts companies should collaborate more, the Australian Major Performing Arts Group was established in 1999, and has been extremely successful since.

In recognition of his distinguished service within the arts industry, Tim was awarded an Order of Australia in 2003.
