ARTS MARKETING STUDY GRANTS AVAILABLE

The Australia Council for the Arts is teaming up with Deakin University to provide study grants for arts marketing in 2009.

The study grants are available for people working in small-to-medium arts organisations funded by the Australia Council.

Deakin’s Arts and Entertainment Management program plays a critical role in enhancing the performance of managers in this industry. The program is specifically designed for people working in the arts and is tailored to meet the needs of the arts sector.

Arts Marketing is offered online over a 13-week semester to allow both flexible study times and distance learning. Consequently applications are welcome from any state or territory.

The unit is available as a single subject. However, it all also counts as credit towards the following qualifications offered by Deakin:

  • Graduate Certificate of Arts and Entertainment Management
  • Masters of Arts and Entertainment Management
  • Masters of Business Administration – Arts and Entertainment Management.

The study grants will cover the cost of the fees ($2,200 in 2008) on completion of Deakin University’s MMK792 Arts Marketing unit.

The study grant is paid in two instalments. At the beginning of the subject, students will pay an amount equal to 50% of the cost of fees by 31 March 2009, fully refundable on successful completion of the subject. Grants cannot be deferred to a future semester.

Closing date for all applications is 21 November 2008. Trimester One starts 9 March 2009.

Feedback from some of the staff of arts organisations who completed the subject in 2007 has been very positive. Comments included:

  • A lot of arts organisations are quite conservative and traditional in management and marketing. This course opens your eyes.
  • This course allows you to think outside the square.
  • I enjoyed having guests and practical workshop discussion time.
  • I know our website needs a lot of work, so the intensive teaching day speaker on online marketing was excellent.
