AUSTRALIA COUNCIL GOVERNING BODY APPOINTMENTS

The Australia Council for the Arts today welcomed the appointment by the Minister for the Arts the Hon Peter Garrett of three new members to its governing Council.

  • Ms Rosalba Clemente has been appointed chair of the theatre board and a member of the Council for three years from 26 March 2008.
  • Professor Brad Haseman has been appointed community interest representative on the Council for three years from 26 March 2008.
  • Dr Chris Sarra, the current chair of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts board, who has been reappointed for a one-year term from 9 March 2008.

Australia Council chairman Mr James Strong AO warmly welcomed the three appointments.

‘The high calibre of these three individuals will bring fresh energy and ideas to the Council table.’ he said.

‘I have worked with Dr Sarra on the Council for the past two years and he’s a great champion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and culture.

‘Ms Clemente brings the eye of a practicising artist and administrator through her background as one of the nation’s most highly regarded directors and playwrights.

‘Professor Haseman’s perspectives from his more than 30 years’ experience in academia and creative industries will bring further diversity to our discussions.

‘I am pleased to welcome them all to the Council.’ Mr Strong said.
