AUSTRALIA COUNCIL HELPS MUSICIANS TO HIT THE ROAD

The Australia Council for the Arts today announced that a new music touring project – Sound Travellers is now open for applications.

The two-year project, a partnership with Ceres Solutions and Performing Lines is designed to support, facilitate and promote the national touring of sound art/electronica, new jazz/ improvisation and contemporary classical music.

  • The program’s main activities are:
  • Support for performance and presentation opportunities in a touring context
  • Development of existing touring networks
  • Maximising funding with other financial sources and in kind support

Infrastructure support including marketing and publicity to enhance artistic and audience development. Joanne Kee, director of Ceres Solutions and leader of the Sound Travellers project said, ‘We identified a real need in the Australian music communityfor a resource to support touring for diverse contemporary music genres. Sound Travellers helps musicians to explore and strengthen national touring opportunities – ultimately bringing their unique music to a larger audience.’

Australia Council chief executive officer, Kathy Keele agreed, ‘The Australia Council is committed to developing new opportunities to increase audience access to live contemporary Australian music. Sound Travellers is a great framework for cutting-edge musicians to get their music out to the market.’

An advisory panel with specialists from each genre will make recommendations to the executive committee regarding the overall objectives of the project. The panel includes Stephen Adams (ABC Classic FM), Professor Andy Arthurs (Queensland University of Technology), John Davis (Australian Music Centre), Ronny Ferella (Half Bent), Cat Hope (WAAPA, ECU), Adrian Jackson (Wangaratta Festival of Jazz) and Roland Peelman (Song Company).
