The Australia Council for the Arts today expressed its sadness at the death of the eminent Australian poet and author Dorothy Porter.
Ms Porter authored six collections of poetry, two novels for young adults, and three verse novels, Akhenaten, The Monkey’s Mask and What a Piece of Work. The Monkey’s Mask was awarded The Age Book of the Year for Poetry and the National Book Council Award.
‘Australian literature has lost one of its most passionate and accomplished writers. We are deeply saddened by her loss.’ said the Australia Council’s literature board chair Imre Salusinszky.
The Australia Council joins with the rest of the arts community in mourning Ms Porter and extends our sympathies to her family and friends.
