The Australia Council mourns the passing of artist Mutlu Cerkez, a gifted conceptual artist who also undertook ambitious installation projects.
Born in 1964, Mutlu Cerkez exhibited in 2005 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in an exhibition with fellow Melbourne artist Marco Fusinato, with both artists sharing a fascination with time and reality. Mutlu also featured in the exhibition Fieldwork Australian Art 1968-2002 with which the National Gallery of Victoria opened its Federation Square galleries.
Mutlu Cerkez represented Australia at the 6th Istanbul Biennial in Turkey in 1999, and Sao Paolo Biennale in Brazil in 1998.
The Councillors and staff of the Australia Council extend their sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Cerkez family.
