The Australia Council for the Arts today expressed its deep sorrow at the sudden passing of one of Australia’s leading choreographic talents Tanja Liedtke.
Australia Council chairman James Strong AO expressed the sadness felt throughout the organisation at Ms Liedtke’s passing.
‘Ms Liedtke was one of the shining lights of Australian contemporary dance,’ he said.
‘The shockwaves from her sudden passing at the age of only 30 are being felt throughout the arts community.
‘Our thoughts go out to her family and friends at this difficult time.’
Australia Council chief executive officer Kathy Keele hailed Ms Liedtke’s unique contribution to Australian dance.
‘Her recent appointment as incoming artistic director of Sydney Dance Company underlined her status as one of the most exciting talents in Australian dance,’ she said.
‘This came on the back of the recent premiere in London of her latest work construct and the outstanding critical and audience response to her previous production Twelfth Floor.
‘Ms Liedtke’s unique vision and energy will be sorely missed by the Australian dance community and the audiences who have been thrilled by her work.’
The Australia Council joins with the rest of the arts community in mourning her loss.
