AUSTRALIA COUNCIL WELCOMES OPERA AUSTRALIA’S NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

The Australia Council for the Arts congratulates Lyndon Terracini on his appointment as Opera Australia’s Artistic Director.

Kathy Keele, Chief Executive of the Australia Council welcomed the four year appointment.

“Lyndon’s breadth of experience and capability will bring energy, stability and a strong vision to this vital Australian cultural asset” said Kathy Keele, Chief Executive of the Australia Council.  “I have always very much enjoyed working with Lyndon. He is enthusiastic, full of ideas and will build strong relationships for the Opera Australia across the wider community and most profoundly within the world of opera.”

Artistic Director and Chief Executive of the Major Brisbane Festivals, Lyndon Terracini’s contract with Opera Australia will begin in October 2009.

Performer, arts administrator, entrepreneur and producer, Mr Terracini made his debut as a baritone in 1976 as Sid in Albert Herring with the Australian Opera, and over the next 20 years he worked both internationally and in Australia with a variety of opera companies, performing a broad range of traditional and contemporary repertoire including major baritone roles in Carmen, Don Quixote, The Marriage of Figaro, Sweeney Todd, and La boheme.

In 1993, he founded the Northern Rivers Performance Arts Company and in 2000 was appointed Artistic Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Music Festival.

In 2007 he took up the role of Chief Executive and Artistic Director for the Major Brisbane Festivals and will continue to direct the Brisbane Festival in September 2009.
