Australia Council Chief Executive Officer Tony Grybowski has today welcomed the reappointment of Rupert Myer AO as Chair of the Council.
Acting Attorney General, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Honourable Warren Truss, confirmed the reappointment earlier today.
Mr Grybowski congratulated Mr Myer on behalf of the Council.
“I am delighted that Mr Myer has been reappointed to the Australia Council Board as Chair and I look forward to continuing the important work we have been undertaking to support Australian arts and artists,” Mr Grybowski said.
“Rupert is a passionate advocate for Australian arts and its artists and the Council has been honoured to work with Rupert since he was appointed Board Chair in July 2012. Under his leadership the Australia Council has implemented the most significant reforms since the organisation was established nearly half a century ago.”
Mr Myer thanked the Attorney General and the Minister for the Arts, Senator the Honourable George Brandis QC, Mr Truss and the Government for his reappointment.
“It is a privilege to serve the Australia Council as part of a cohesive and committed board working alongside and collaboratively with a talented and committed CEO, senior management and staff at every level throughout the organisation,” Mr Myer said.
“We are currently reviewing our strategic plan and activities within the context of the Government’s new National Programme for Excellence in the Arts.
“Tony and I will continue to work closely with Senator Brandis, the Ministry for the Arts and Creative Partnerships Australia to avoid duplication between funding programs and to ensure that our programs sit alongside all other forms of government support to the sector.
“The Australia Council is committed to supporting individual Australian artists at all stages of their careers, to arts organisations of all sizes, to strategic investment in the development of global markets and audiences and to being deeply knowledgeable about and connected to the entire Australian arts ecology.”
Mr Grybowski said that the Council is uniquely positioned to be a strong advocate and enabler of Australian arts, drawing on the extensive arts expertise of its staff and a significant knowledge base built over almost half a century of supporting the arts and an effective and active program engaging with the arts sector.
“We will continue to work collaboratively with all our stakeholders to ensure Australia Council support enables a rich and diverse artistic culture for all Australians,” Mr Grybowski said.
“The Council is committed to keeping the sector informed about changes to the structure of our funding programs and we will announce these as soon as possible.”
