AUSTRALIAN ARTS TURNING HEADS IN CANADA

C!RCA is set to join five other Australian performing arts companies at one of the world’s most prestigious performing arts markets, CINARS, in Montreal from 17-23  November.

C!RCA have been chosen by the international CINARS jury as one of only five companies to present their work at a dedicated ‘projects in development session’.

C!RCA’s artistic director, Yaron Lifschitz says he’s heading to CINARS to look for partners.

“We’d like to tour, and we’d like to remake our latest work with live music,” he says.

According to C!RCA  Furioso is a mixture of theatre and acrobatics; a ‘turbulent blend of bodies, skills and emotions. It is a journey into our fear and fury.’

This is C!RCA’s third trip to the biannual CINARS. Earlier ventures saw the company gain an international agent and secure touring opportunities. C!RCA spent four weeks in Canada in March 2008 and are gearing up to return for another six and a half week tour in March-April 2009.

“For some reason, in the land of Cirque du Soleil, Canadian audiences go nuts over what we do. It’s something different. They just can’t quite figure us out,” Lifschitz says.

C!RCA will be joined at CINARS by BalletLab, The Black Arm Band,  Dancenorth, Tom Tom Club and Circus Oz.

BalletLab are the only non-Canadian company to present in the off-CINARS showcase, where they will perform the baroque underworld ballet Brindabella.
