In September, three youth theatre companies were invited to use the foyer space of the Australia Council’s Sydney office as a rehearsal venue.
This invitation was initiated by the Youth Arts Group, a subgroup within Council that seeks to ensure the Young People and the Arts policy remains a priority within the Council’s activities.
Powerhouse Youth Theatre (western Sydney), Outback Theatre (south-west NSW) and Tantrum Theatre (Newcastle) used the space to rehearse and induct new members to their groups. The groups also had the opportunity to meet with Australia Council staff and give an insight to their rehearsal processes.
To highlight the theatrical program, the foyer window exhibited photographs of the groups’ productions, and those of youth theatre group Shopfront Theatre (south-west Sydney).
