DIRECTOR OF VISUAL ARTS APPOINTED

The Australia Council for the Arts today announced the appointment of Kon Gouriotis OAM as its director of visual arts.

As director of visual arts, Kon Gouriotis will play an important leadership role in the Australian visual arts sector and within the Australia Council.

Kon comes to the Australia Council from his current position as the executive director of the Casula Powerhouse. He has made a significant and ongoing contribution to the development of the arts centre and has raised the profile and experience of visual arts in western Sydney.

Kon has been responsible for developing numerous programs and exhibitions and most recently was project director and curatorium member for Nam Bang. He has played a key role in other exhibitions including Testa Dura-Mule Head (2008); Made on the Kitchen (2007); Refill (2006) and C3 West (2006).

Kon has been the recipient of two Asialink awards. He has also contributed to a number of publications most recently, Salu-Salo: In conversation with Filipinos, an anthology of Philippine-Australian writings and is a regular presenter at conferences and seminars.
