The National Indigenous Arts Reference Group (NIARG) is comprised of artists and industry experts from around the country, who act as an information resource and advisory group to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board.
The inaugural meeting took place in Sydney on 18 and 19 June 2007 and the group will meet two times per year.
NIARG terms of reference
Purpose
The purpose of National Indigenous Arts Reference Group is to provide industry expertise across all art form practice, infrastructure and programs relating to the Australia Councilís Indigenous arts and industry development strategies managed by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board.
The National Indigenous Arts Reference Group is not a decision-making body and has no authority to determine or decide on the implementation of strategies.
Terms of reference
Provide advice and make recommendations about the arts industry matters that will assist in the decision-making process of the Board and Division
Act as in industry point of reference for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board and Division
Advocate and promote the focal and industry development strategies throughout their respective networks
Guide the implementation of the strategies in collaboration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board and Division
