From August 2005, the J ARTS CREW will begin broadcasting on ABC Radio’s Triple J network.
The J ARTS CREW is a group of roving arts reporters covering everything from high art to grass roots events. After a nationwide search conducted through THE PROGRAM and over 200 applications, the J ARTS CREW will comprise:
- Miranda Tetlow (ACT)
- Claire Frost (NSW)
- Alex Kelly (NT)
- Carol Raabus (TAS)
- Jennifer Hopper (VIC)
- Kate Phillips (WA)
- Fiona Hogg (QLD)
- Lachlan Tetlow-Stuart (SA).
Coming from a community radio background and a diverse involvement in the arts, including everything from fine arts to comics to carving to digital art to performance, they represent the eclectic face of the arts in Australia.
Jennifer Bott, CEO of the Australia Council said the J ARTS CREW represented a big step in exposing the arts to a wider and younger audience.
‘This is an exciting opportunity for these young Australians to share their artistic experiences with other young people and the rest of the country.
‘The J ARTS CREW will help to make the arts more accessible to young people, breaking down stereotypes about art and culture — and the rest of us get to enjoy the results.’
After an intensive training period the crew will begin their broadcasts reporting on the artistic endeavours and achievements of young artists throughout the country.
‘This is a fantastic group of young arts enthusiasts with a love for radio’, J ARTS CREW producer Cath Dwyer said.
‘With these twin passions, they’re ready to bring triple j listeners the latest in what’s happening across the artistic spectrum all over the country.’
