LAUNCH OF NATIONAL INDIGENOUS TELEVISION

The Australia Council for the Arts today welcomed the launch of National Indigenous Television (NITV), Australia’s first national Indigenous broadcasting service.

NITV will be an important avenue for telling the unique stories of Australia’s Indigenous artists and their achievements in keeping culture strong.

NITV will be telling these stories in Indigenous voices and brings a new platform for showcasing dancers, artists, actors, musicians and writers. With an expected audience of more than 220,000 people across remote Australia, the launch of NITV will give artists stories a wider reach to help inspire other artists.

This multilingual television service was launched by the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator the Hon Helen Coonan with a live internet streaming of the first broadcast at 10 am AEST on Friday July 13. For more information see www.nitv.org.au.
