Four outstanding artists have been awarded fellowships by the Australia Council’s literature and music boards.
Fellowships are the richest and most prestigious Australia Council grants for individual artists. They provide outstanding artists with $90,000 over two years to develop their skills and create new works. They are awarded only once in an artist’s lifetime.
Two writers have been awarded fellowships by the literature board:
- Crime writer Peter Temple – who will use the fellowship to write the second novel in a trilogy that began with the award-winning The Broken Shore.
- Poet Laurie Duggan – who will use the fellowship to write a documentary poems set in the UK.
Two musicians have been awarded fellowships by the music board:
- Jazz pianist Barney McAll – who will use the fellowship to create new Cuban-influenced compositions that will premiere in 2007.
- Classical pianist Kathryn Selby – who will use the fellowship to present workshops and performances with talented young musicians.
