LITTLE AUSSIE READERS

The Australia Council is proud to support today’s launch of the Vegemite Little Aussie Reader program.

This national project is being launched at the State Library of South Australia to encourage reading to Australian children.

Regularly reading aloud to children is one of the most important things to help develop their ability to read and write.  Over 75 per cent of a child’s brain development happens between birth and three.

The Vegemite Little Aussie Reader project involves the distribution of scrap books, reading materials and information sheets to all public libraries and 4693 accredited long day care centres across Australia.

The Australia Council welcomes the initiative as an opportunity to develop a life long love of reading in Australian children. Because the best thing about Little Aussie Readers is that, one day, they become big Aussie readers.
