The Australia Council for the Arts and Sydney Festival today launched the Movers and Shakers program – the first-ever program dedicated to Australian dance to be featured at a major Australian arts event.
Movers and Shakers features eight unique and dramatic dance events headlining the festival’s highly successful About an Hour series. Australia Council dedicated $200,000 to enable Sydney Festival to produce the program, building on its already strong commitment to Australian contemporary dance.
Kathy Keele, chief executive officer of Australia Council said, ‘Movers and Shakers is a terrific opportunity for the Australia Council to grow audiences for and awareness of the quality and diversity of Australian contemporary dance. We are extremely pleased and excited to work with Sydney Festival as it provides a perfect, high-impact forum to showcase the immense talent of our home-grown dance visionaries.’
