Music Australia has announced the latest recipients of investment through its Export Development Fund.
The third round of investment sees over $900,000 invested in 72 projects, involving a range of artists from solo acts to bands, producers, composers and songwriters to undertake career-defining activities around the world.
The Export Development Fund is a matched funding initiative, designed to elevate emerging, breakthrough and established acts into the international market, whilst fostering sustainable and thriving careers.
Focusing on three key pathways to international export – Performance and Touring, Professional and Artistic Development and Market and Audience Development – the Export Development Fund has successfully supported over 240 projects to date, highlighting the need for a dedicated contemporary music export program in Australia.
Among the highlights of the 72 supported projects:
- Larry Gurruwiwi, reknowned Yidaki virtuoso, will perform at Switzerland’s Fondation Opale with his family
- Raw Black Metal band KILAT will embark on a headline tour of Southeast Asia, with a special focus on Indonesia
- Independent electronic producer, artist, songwriter and DJ Ninajirachi will undertake her first co-headline tour across North America with Estonian American musician Umru
- Canberra-based rock outfit Hands Like Houses will travel to Thailand to write, record and collaborate with local South-East Asian artists
- Ethiopian Australian R&B artist Soli will undertake professional and artistic development in Los Angeles
- Ned Houston will embark on two songwriting trips to South Korea to collaborate with K-Pop producers and artists
- South African-born, Sri-Lankan Australian artist Ecca Vandal will travel to Sri Lanka to create a music video and mini-documentary for single ‘Ghosts’
- Walmatjarri Elder, blues and gospel singer-songwriter Kankawa Nagarra’s new album WIRLMARNI will be promoted across the US in collaboration with Flippen Yeah and Mississippi Records
- The Freestyle Orchestra will undertake a professional recording and tracking of the Violin Concerto ‘Tale of the Firebird’ by Australian composer Chloe Charody in Vienna, Austria.
