The co-production between Ovation Channel and Regional Arts premiers at 8pm EST on the Ovation Channel with shows repeated several times during each month.

Through performance, visual arts, music, sculpture and drama, the new initiative will bring to light the untold stories of some of Australia’s most creative artists whose work portray contemporary Australian culture.

Cultural events to be featured include the popular 2007 Alice Springs Beanie Festival, Circus Oz, and the prestigious 2007 Cossack Art Award.

Heartland goes beyond the outskirts of metropolitan Australia to uncover some of the vast array of great art – original art that opens eyes, art that entertains – art that changes lives,’ said the president of Regional Arts Australia, Ms Suzie Haslehurst.

Heartland celebrates those people and places with stories that often don’t get mentioned by the main metropolitan media,’ said Ms Haslehurst.

The series is supported by the Australia Council for the Arts’ strategic initiatives funding with Regional Arts Australia. This funding aims to increase the participation of regional and rural communities in arts and culture.
