PROGRAM APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR APAM 2016

Brisbane Powerhouse is calling for program applications for the next Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) held in Brisbane, Queensland 22 – 26 February 2016. Performing artists and arts organisations from across Australia are invited to apply to present their latest productions or pitch works in development as part of the official APAM 2016 program. Applications are now available online at www.performingartsmarket.com.au/apply and close midnight 1 July 2015 AEST.

APAM is the leading international industry event for contemporary performing arts from Australia and New Zealand. APAM 2016 is presented by the Australia Council for the Arts in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse.

Kris Stewart, Brisbane Powerhouse Artistic Director, says: “APAM is the only international market held in Australia that strives to feature world-class productions and works in development across genres including a successful showcase of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists as part of its official program.”

“If your application is successful, you will be one of a selected few to perform live to an audience of key international and national presenters, agents and influencers. There is no better way to build awareness for your work and staying on people’s radar than interacting face-to-face during APAM.”

Sue Giles, Artistic Director of Polyglot Theatre who presented a Pitch at APAM 2014, adds: “APAM is like the essential shifter in your toolbox to help us take work to the international market place. Participating in APAM has undeniably allowed us to strengthen relationships and develop new touring outcomes for our work.”

Collette Brennan, Director, International Development at the Australia Council for the Arts, says: “The quality of applications is crucial for building a program that will attract international and national delegates to the event and support APAM as a key launch platform for Australian artists and arts organisations.”

Applications are accepted for two categories: Showcase – open to productions that have premiered and are tour-ready, and Pitch – for works in development. National and international artists and arts organisations can also submit expressions of interest for on display booths open for trading during dedicated times at APAM 2016.

APAM roadshow information sessions will be held across Australia and in Auckland during March and April 2015. Artists and arts organisations interested in applying are invited to attend these sessions to hear from previous APAM participants and meet Brisbane Powerhouse staff and Australia Council representatives.

Brisbane Powerhouse will be the home for most APAM 2016 activities and performances, with additional events held across a network of local partner venues including the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Queensland University of Technology Gardens Theatre, the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts and Brisbane City Council’s City Hall.

Brisbane City Council is the principal supporter of APAM. The Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland and Tourism and Events Queensland, proudly supports APAM 2014, 2016 and 2018.
