Australia Council for the Arts congratulates Stephen Page as his contributions to choreography and community are celebrated.
In a ceremony in Sydney on Wednesday 28 November where he was named NSW Australian of the year Stephen Page said;
‘I’d like to thank and recognise the many people, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, who believe in the same things I believe in – bringing cultures together, respect for one another and the creative celebration of the oldest living culture in the world.’
Stephen Page danced with Sydney Dance Company until 1991, when he was appointed artistic director of Bangarra Dance Theatre.
With Praying Mantis Dreaming, Ninni, and Ochres, Stephen Page established early milestones for the company and Australian dance. He has continued to connect cultures and inspire audiences with his works, collecting three Helpmann Awards along the way.
This summer, Stephen Page and three generations of his family will present Kin as part of the Australia Council supported Movers & Shakers dance series at the Sydney Festival.
