The Australia Council has changed the name of its visual arts/craft board to the visual arts board.
After the Australia Council’s recent reorganisation gave the board significant budget responsibility for funding new media art, it was considered appropriate to revise the board’s name.
Rather than attempting to capture the breadth of its funding brief – now spanning craft, new media, painting, design, sculpture, photography, and so on – the new name includes them all, clearly and concisely.
‘Our new name is an inclusive description of the arts practices we fund. In a sense it reflects the complexity of the visual arts sector,’ says board chair Lesley Alway.
‘There’s certainly no change in our commitment to Australian craft, and we welcome our expanded role of supporting new media arts,’ she said.
