The Australia Council for the Arts wishes to acknowledge the passing of Les Murray, and recognise his extraordinary contribution to Australian literature.
Les Murray’s impressive poetry career spanned over more than four decades, with his work translated into around 20 languages.
He received numerous accolades over the course of his career including the Order of Australia, and was listed as one of Australia’s 100 National Living Treasures.
He was the recipient of the Grace Leven Prize on two occasions, the Petrarch Prize and the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry, among many others.
The Australia Council extends its deepest sympathies to his friends, family and peers.
