The Australia Council wishes to acknowledge the passing of historian and author Michael Cannon and recognise his impressive contribution to Australian literature.
Mr Cannon was the author of more than 20 books, including his pivotal work The Land Boomers (1966).
In 1995, he received the Australia Council’s Emeritus Award for Literature.
Mr Cannon was the founding Editor of Historical Records of Victoria, and during an extensive career, also worked as a journalist, newspaper editor and historian.
The Australia Council extends its sympathies to Mr Cannon’s friends, family and colleagues.
