Creative Australia contributes to Royal Commission on antisemitism and social cohesion

Creative Australia welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the Royal Commission and looks forward to considering the Commission’s findings and recommendations when they are delivered.

Tim Blackwell, Acting Chief Executive Officer, gave evidence today on behalf of Creative Australia as part of Hearing Block 6, which focused on practical guidance, training and frameworks to help organisations recognise, respond to and prevent antisemitism.

We acknowledge the evidence heard of the experiences of Jewish artists, arts workers and cultural organisations, and the broader challenges facing the sector in ensuring safe, respectful and inclusive creative environments.

The evidence also highlighted the complexity of the arts sector as a diverse network of workplaces, and the need for practical support to help organisations of different sizes and structures strengthen policies, conduct expectations and cultural understanding.

Through Creative Workplaces, Creative Australia will continue to support the sector with practical resources to strengthen workplace policies, cultural competency and practical support for safe and respectful creative workplaces.

Creative Australia will continue its work to support rigorous, transparent and consistent decision-making informed by artistic or creative merit and impact.

We acknowledge the many Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and honour their Elders past and present.

We respect their deep enduring connection to their lands, waterways and surrounding clan groups since time immemorial. We cherish the richness of First Nations Peoples’ artistic and cultural expressions.

We are privileged to gather on this Country and through this website to share knowledge, culture and art now, and with future generations.

First Nations Peoples should be aware that this website may contain images or names of people who have died.
