Creative Australia is investing more than $5.8 million to support 20 bold projects with the scale, partnerships and creative force to reach new and more diverse audiences across Australia and the world.

This includes three Strategic Investments to support sector development, build skills and capacity, enable the creation of new work, and grow audiences in line with the aims of the Fund.

Creative Futures Fund Director Wendy Martin said:

“The Creative Futures Fund invests in ambitious Australian stories with the potential to grow audiences nationally and internationally. It enables artists and organisations to take creative risks, build partnerships and develop work of scale, imagination and impact.

“These projects, led by artists and organisations with bold creative visions, reflect the depth and diversity of creative talent across the country. This investment will help uniquely Australian work travel further, connect with new audiences and resonate with people across Australia and around the globe.”

The Creative Futures Fund supports activity across Australia through three streams: Development Investment for new ideas and partnerships; Delivery Investment for presentation-ready works; and Strategic Investment for sector development, skills and audience growth.

Highlights include:

  • Tim Winton’s Blueback will transform the celebrated Australian story into a large-scale theatrical production through puppetry, projection, ensemble performance and original music
  • Performing Lines WA will develop The Fire Project, an immersive installation transforming real life bushfire stories into an audio-visual experience
  • re:group performance collective and Deaf collaborators will develop The Milan Conference, a major new theatre work performed primarily in Auslan and translated into English, placing Deaf artists and audiences at the centre of its creative development
  • Red Room Poetry will create a National Youth Poet Laureate program, nurturing and celebrating the next generation of Australian poets
  • Opera Queensland’s Naria will bring together Western classical traditions with Torres Strait Islander and Pacific Island music and storytelling in a powerful new opera.
