Vale Lucette Aldous AC

The Australia Council wishes to acknowledge the passing of Lucette Aldous AC and pay tribute to her impressive contribution to performing arts as an internationally acclaimed ballet dancer and teacher. Lucette was a dance luminary in Australia and overseas.

The Australia Council wishes to acknowledge the passing of Lucette Aldous AC and pay tribute to her impressive contribution to performing arts as an internationally acclaimed ballet dancer and teacher.

Lucette was a dance luminary in Australia and overseas. Petite in stature and grand in gesture, she famously starred as Kitri opposite ballet sensation Rudolf Nureyev in the 1973 film version of Don Quixote for the Australian Ballet.

In 2018, she was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for her eminent service to the performing arts and to dance education as a mentor and role model for young performers.

Her artistry was radiantly captured by Sue Healey in her film work On View, Icons (2018).

Australia Council Arts Head of Dance Adrian Burnett said: “Lucette was internationally renowned for her humility, disciplined work ethic and charismatic stage presence. She was a gifted artist and generous coach, teacher and mentor to generations of Australian dancers.”

The Australia Council extends its deepest sympathies to Lucette’s colleagues, friends and family.
