What we do
Supporting and promoting Australian literature
Writing Australia, located within Creative Australia, provides direct support to the literature sector to grow local and international audiences for Australian books, planning for new investments and providing strategic advice.
We are responsible for:
- supporting and promoting the Australian literature sector
- supporting and promoting the development of markets and audiences for Australian literature
- The Prime Minister’s Literary Awards
Key areas of focus
Writing Australia will provide a range of new programs and initiatives for the book industry and broader literary sector, including but not limited to:
- supporting writers and illustrators to create new works
- investing in a network of key literary organisations delivering public value for Australians
- developing national industry initiatives and international markets to maximise exposure and access to global markets
- and establishing a National Poet Laureate to promote poetry and mentor up and coming poets.
