Ideas, talent and connections are the foundations of Australia’s cultural and creative industries.

Creative Australia believes that for arts and culture to be its best – and to be relevant to contemporary Australia – it needs to be accessible. Australians of all backgrounds and experiences need to be able to participate as audiences, as creators, as workers and as leaders.

The range of identities, experiences and abilities that make up our geographically dispersed communities – and the elevation of First Nations cultural expression and innovation – are what makes Australia culturally rich and distinctive.

Creative Australia recognises the need to address existing barriers in our industries with human-centred, creative approaches.

We must be ready to change the ways we work to collaborate and connect with diverse audiences and communities – to support artists with different ways of working – and to focus on inclusive career pathways that are geared for success.

We will all benefit from equitable, inclusive, accessible and diverse arts and culture.

We recognise that shared vision and collaboration across our industries is needed to deliver on this transformation.

We acknowledge progress has been made, but we also know there is more work to do.

Our equity and diversity aims

Through strategic, inclusive and collaborative engagement Creative Australia aims to:

  • Support organisations and arts activity to reflect and include all communities.
  • Invest in artists, creative workers, infrastructure and services that centre equity and respond to gaps and needs.
  • Identify and champion pathways for people who experience marginalisation and discrimination so that all Australians can participate in arts and culture.
  • Build capacity across the industry to embed protocols for using First Nations Cultural and Intellectual Property in the Arts.
  • Undertake research and publish meaningful insights to build the evidence base around equity in arts and culture.

Creative Australia is committed to shaping arts and creativity that enriches the lives of all Australians in an ecology that is thriving, equitable and accessible for all.

We acknowledge the many Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and honour their Elders past and present.

We respect their deep enduring connection to their lands, waterways and surrounding clan groups since time immemorial. We cherish the richness of First Nations Peoples’ artistic and cultural expressions.

We are privileged to gather on this Country and through this website to share knowledge, culture and art now, and with future generations.

First Nations Peoples should be aware that this website may contain images or names of people who have died.
