About AusArt Day

This new initiative is designed to support artists and arts organisations to fundraise on one national day, and to increase the donor pool in support of Australian creativity whilst elevating the public value of the arts in the consciousness of everyday Australians.

There is a significant cultural shift required to increase philanthropy to cultural charities. Creative Australia has already started this work demonstrating that giving to and through the arts is an investment in Australia’s future, with social impact cutting across portfolios, from health and wellbeing, education and child development, to social cohesion and community resilience.

Creative Australia is committed to equip artists and arts organisations with the tools, platforms and capability to maximise income generated from private investment, as we continually strengthen our role and programs to support the sector to enhance fundraising capacity. The new AusArt Day is one of the initiatives we are exploring to support this mission.

If you are an artist, collective or arts organisation, participate in this new initiative by hosting and registering your own AusArt Day below.

This national day is scheduled to take place on Thursday 23 October 2025.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

What is AusArt Day?

AusArt Day is a nationwide, sector-wide fundraising initiative designed to mobilise artists and arts organisations to raise funds for their work and creative ambitions on a single, powerful day. This unified call to action aims to amplify the visibility of arts philanthropy and inspire greater generosity across the country.

This inaugural event is more than a fundraiser—it's a national public movement that celebrates and elevates the role of the arts in Australian life.

It will take place for the first time on Thursday 23 October 2025.

This program recognises the vital role that the arts play in our communities  and champions artists and organisations dedicated to creative expression.

This new program is an invitation for everyone to give back in a way that directly impacts the future of arts and creativity. It’s not just about financial contributions — it’s also about sharing and recognising the incredible work of artists, educators, performers, and creators who enrich our world every day.

Open to all Australian artists and organisations, the program follows an open-access model, encouraging participation from artists and arts organisations regardless of size or scale. Whether you're an independent artist or part of a large institution, you're invited to be part of this shared moment of national solidarity and fundraising. (See How can I or my arts organisation or collective participate in AusArt Day?’  for more information on how to participate).

Read our  opinion piece  about annual giving days for more context to this new initiative, including why now in 2025.

What is a giving day?

A giving day is defined as a 12 to 24-hour fundraising event aimed at bringing communities together to raise awareness for a specific cause, increase engagement, and drive donations.

Giving days are unique, in that they allow fundraisers to showcase their work to reach brand new donors through means like social and peer-to-peer fundraising, which are becoming steadfast methods to attract new supporters.

When is AusArt Day celebrated?

The official AusArt Day is on Thursday 23 October 2025, however, a successful giving day campaign typically involves a quiet fundraising phase that lasts six weeks or longer, helping to build momentum and lay the groundwork for a successful public campaign.

Who organises AusArt Day and why?

AusArt Day is an initiative of Creative Australia.

Creative Australia’s role is to champion and invest in Australian arts and creativity to benefit all Australians. This includes funding a wide range of arts activities, supporting, promoting and developing creative arts practice, and advocating for the value of arts and creativity. Creative Australia also plays a role in building audiences and markets for Australian creative work, both domestically and internationally.

On AusArt Day, our role is to promote the event, provide resources to registered participants, and support them in maximising their fundraising campaigns. We’ll spread the word through our networks, media outlets, and social media channels to drive awareness and engagement.

In 2025 Creative Australia has provided more than 100 artists and arts organisations with microgrants to assist in the creation of digital content to support their AusArt Day fundraising campaign.

Creative Australia is also facilitating a series of free workshops and coaching sessions to help participants maximise their campaign delivery.

A suite of branded assets is also being resourced through Creative Australia to complement participating campaigns.

AusArt Day is dedicated to recognising the vital role that the arts play in our communities – including the need for charitable contributions to support their sustainability – and ensuring that artists and organisations dedicated to creative expression continue to thrive.

What is the Australian Cultural Fund (ACF)?

The Australian Cultural Fund (ACF) is a free digital fundraising platform for Australian artists and arts organisations, enabling tax deductable fundraising online, with 100% of donations going directly towards a creative project.

The ACF is operated by Creative Australia and was established by the Australian Government in 2003 to encourage donations to the arts.

Through the ACF, artists upload their project, start their fundraising campaign and invite art lovers and supporters to donate. Donations over $2 are tax deductible, and supporters get the chance to make a real difference to the work of Australian artists.

If you do not already have an online crowdfunding platform, the ACF is a great tool to consider using in your AusArt Day campaign. Find out more at this link.

Will Creative Australia collect donations on my behalf?

Creative Australia will not collect donations on behalf of participants. All participants will deliver an independent fundraising campaign from Creative Australia. All participants are required to provide a link to the online platform where they are promoting and collecting donations as part of their registration. This can be an external third-party donation specific platform, the Australian Cultural Fund (ACF) or their own website.

For Donors

How can I donate to AusArt Day?

Participating fundraisers will register their involvement in AusArt Day on the Creative Australia website. Each registration will include the upload of a link to the fundraising platform where the registrant is collecting donations.

Donors can view all participants from the Creative Australia website, which will list all registered participants including a link to their fundraising campaign. Each artist and arts organisation are fundraising for different projects.

Donations can be made directly to participants by clicking on the link of each fundraising campaign and donating directly to that campaign.

While financial contributions are the most direct way to support artists and arts organisations, here are some non-financial ways to support and give this AusArt Day:

  • find participating artists and arts organisations on our website and follow them to see when and where they might be presenting their work
  • subscribe to their newsletters
  • follow their social media accounts
  • share the news of AusArt Day with your networks (in-person and/or online).

Can I support more than one artist or arts organisation?

Yes! Please donate to as many artists or arts organisations as you choose.

Are donations on AusArt Day tax-deductible in Australia?

Whether your donation is tax deductable is dependent on the artist or arts organisation you are donating to. Visit the AusArt Day's webpage for information on participating campaigns, once campaigns go live in early October.

Will I receive a receipt for my donation?

The artist or arts organisation you are donating to will have information on their donation page relating to receipting your donation.

How do I know my donation is going to a verified arts organisation or artist?

All registered artists and arts organisations participating will be listed on our AusArt Day page. This list will be published in early October.

Can I give offline or in other ways besides online donations?

Yes. The official AusArt Day is on Thursday 23 October 2025, however, a successful giving day campaign typically involves a quiet fundraising phase that lasts six weeks or longer, helping to build momentum and lay the groundwork for a successful public campaign.

Donations can be pledged to a registered participant during the quiet fundraising phase.

Where does my donation go? How will I see the impact of my donation?

Each artist and arts organisation are fundraising for different projects. Visit the AusArt Day's webpage for information on participating campaigns when published in early October.

Each artist and arts organisation may choose to update you on your donation impact differently.
