Project: Perth Moves 2025

Why did you apply for Plus1?

To have the opportunity to double all our donations. To set ourselves a fundraising challenge that gave back to our efforts in abundance.

Tell us about your fundraising strategy?

STRUT Dance created a fundraising campaign around PERTH MOVES 2025 – the largest, and most "public-facing" program, on our annual calendar. The campaign started with an in-person fundraising event to introduce the project and fundraising targets.

Over the ensuing four months, we communicated the campaign publicly through social media channels, and privately with in-person one on one meetings. Once people had donated, we stayed in touch via project update EDMs. Towards the end of the campaign we hosted bespoke artist talks events to bring donors and those sitting on the fence, further into the inner workings of what we do.

What were your most significant achievements?

We achieved and surpassed many of our targets, established several new donor relationships, and reconnected positively with previous donors.

How did you contact your donors and form relationships during the campaign and post fundraising?

We contacted donors via:

  • EDMs
  • personal emails
  • phone calls
  • social media posts – Facebook, Instagram & LinkedIn
  • introductions via board members and STRUT supporters.

We formed relationships through personal conversations and meetings with the STRUT co-directors, our board and/or STRUT supporters.

Were there any unexpected results?

We reactivated STRUT's LinkedIn account prior to the campaign commencing and made updates along the way about the campaign. Our final call for donations on LinkedIn led to a new foundation donating $30,000 to our campaign.

Is there anything you would do differently?

In future (if funding permitted) we would engage a development consultant from the beginning to the end of the campaign. For this campaign, we engaged someone midway through the campaign and whilst we benefited from this, we believe we could have fundraised further had they been engaged earlier.

What is your top tip for someone applying for this program in the future?

Plus1 is a great way to set yourself a fundraising challenge whilst guaranteeing a doubling of all donations!
