A glossary detailing the investments and activities of Music Australia to date

AMP’ed UP (The Australian Music Prize) 
A social media campaign run to celebrate the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Australian Music Prize (AMP) featuring Alex the Astronaut and Nooky, looking to encourage music fans and industry professionals to embrace the creativity and diversity of Australia’s world-class music scene. 
ARIA Amplified (ARIA) 
A 60-90 second weekly audio-visual wrap-up of the week’s music news as uploaded by Aussie artists across an 8-month program, run by ARIA and produced by Roving Enterprises.  
ARIA Collab (ARIA) 
A series of immersive, week-long recording sessions in state-of-the-art studios, ARIA Collab will select five Australian artists per program to collaborate with some of the most innovative figures in modern music production, with the goal of creating and releasing export-ready, cross-border hits.  
Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups (APIG) (Creative Australia) 
Arts Projects for Individuals and Groups is one of Creative Australia’s major bi-annual grant programs which funds a range of activities that deliver benefits to the arts sector and wider public, including national and international audiences and communities with grants available from $10,000 to $50,000. The grant aims to strengthen artistic practice and sector development across various disciplines. Music Australia provides a financial uplift to the program which allows more contemporary music artists to secure funding in each round. 
Arts Projects for Organisations (APO) (Creative Australia) 
Arts Projects for Organisations is one of Creative Australia’s major bi-annual grant programs which funds a range of activities that deliver benefits to the arts sector and wider public, including national and international audiences and communities with grants available from $20,000 to $100,000. The grant aims to strengthen artistic practice and sector development across various disciplines. Music Australia provides a financial uplift to the program which allows more contemporary music artists to secure funding in each round. 
Australian Music and Games 2023 Benchmark (Creative Australia, QUT, Swinburne) 
This inaugural study documents the ways in which Australian composers and musicians are working with the digital games sector, from licensing music, composing soundtracks and conducting live performances of game music. 
Australian Music Media Uplift (CMTP) (Creative Australia) 
Music Australia is investing in local Australian music media through the Contemporary Music Touring Program. Applicants have the option to access a $5,000 uplift in Australian music media advertising spend to promote their funded touring activity. To qualify, applicants need to demonstrate how they will use the uplift for their marketing and promotional efforts which includes but not limited to purchasing radio carts on community radio, buying commercial radio advertising, and advertising in music media publications. 
Contemporary Music Touring Program (CMTP) (Creative Australia) 
The Contemporary Music Touring Program (CMTP) supports national touring activity undertaken by Australian musicians performing original Australian contemporary music. The program focuses on reaching regional and remote areas while fostering a thriving, sustainable music industry ecosystem. CMTP prioritises funding for tours that include regional and remote destinations and can support touring musicians, managers, agents, music networks and joint tours. Music Australia provides a financial uplift to the program which allows more artists to secure funding in each round. 
Core Contribution Fund (CCF) (Music Australia) 
A grant program designed to support eligible organisations providing services to key areas of the contemporary Australian music industry. It provides a two-year investment for core operations and staffing to build stability and capacity in the Australian contemporary music sector, with a focus on industry representative, advocacy, member and/or growth and development organisations representing/supporting a key sector area/membership, specific genre of music, gender equity, or Australian musicians. 
CrewCare Traineeship (CrewCare) 
The Weasle Eicke Scholarship is an initiative of CrewCare providing a pathway to jobs in live music. Music Australia will look to expand the program, (which to date has been run twice in Victoria - funded by Creative Vic) into other states around the country. The program is intended to provide a fast-tracked pathway for tertiary students undertaking live production courses, and unskilled workers from both regional and metro areas, who are active within the live music industry. 
Delivery Partners (Music Australia) 
Delivery Partners are organisations that receive investment from Music Australia to provide services for artists, industry professionals, and organisations, aimed at fostering growth and development within the Australian contemporary music industry. The pilot programs which spanned the 2024 calendar year were designed to address various sector needs, including industry skills development, youth engagement, grassroots live music, export music market development, and climate services. The four delivery partners were invited to advance from pilot to full partner status and have been funded for two (2025 + 2026) + two (2027 + 2028) years. 
Economic and Cultural Value of Country Music (Music Australia) 
Funded via APO, Music Australia invested in The Academy of Country Music to undertake research into the Economic and Cultural Value of Country Music. 
The Bass Line (McAtamney & Advisors, Music Australia, Creative Australia) 
McAtamney & Advisors has been engaged by Music Australia to undertake an economic analysis of the Australian music industry. This will be the first national analysis to quantify the industry’s contribution and establish a credible methodology that can be repeated and extended with improved data and industry developments. The project objectives include: I. Defining the core economic activities of the Australian music industry;  II. Identifying relevant data sources against the core activities to establish the Australian music industry’s: Direct economic contribution; Direct employment; and Value of exports. III. Ensuring a repeatable methodology that can be undertaken annually to support longitudinal analysis. 
Eurovision Representative (SBS) 
Selected externally by the broadcaster SBS, participation in Eurovision is expected to drive a significant boost in streaming, audience engagement and recorded music sales for the representing artist. 
Export Development Fund (Music Australia) 
The Music Australia Export Development Fund (EDF) is a matched-funding scheme that offers targeted support for emerging, breakthrough and established artists at different career junctures by providing a bespoke grant program that targets three specific areas of international export: Performance & Touring, Professional & Artistic Development, and Market & Audience Development. 
First Nations-led Review (Support Act) 
Music Australia provided funding to Support Act to establish a working group to commission a First Nations-led review to address their under-representation, treatment and participation in the music industry, as a subsequent study from the Raising Their Voices Report.  
First Sounds Compilation (CBAA, GIS) 
An initiative to have more First Nations music artists heard across Australian community radio, building audiences, engagement and potential for revenue, which involves two curated, CD and digital compilations of new and emerging First Nations music as determined by a panel of First Nations individuals. First Sounds is delivered by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, in conjunction with Gadigal Information Services. 
Game Audio Intensive (MESS, AMC) 
An 8-week program developed by the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) and the Australian Music Centre (AMC) which is tailored to the needs of independent game development. With a focus on hands-on experience, networking, and capacity building, participants immersed themselves in interactive creation, learnt game audio workflow and tools, and engaged with industry professionals. 
High Score Conference (APRA AMCOS) 
A games audio conference where music creators, game developers, and industry professionals connect and explore the important role that music and audio play in game design and experience. APRA AMCOS partnered with Music Australia to deliver a series of ten national scholarships to songwriters and composers to attend in 2024.   
Insurance Mutual Feasibility Study (FEAT, Bloom Insurance) 
Industry-led analysis of insurance in the Australian music festival industry, seeking to better understand the drivers behind increasing insurance costs, the variability of insurance costs across different music festival types, and assessing the viability of alternative models, such as an aggregated, or Discretionary Mutual. 
LIFECYCLE Recording, Marketing & Promotion, Touring (NATSIMO) 
A suite of initiatives aimed at recording, promoting and touring First Nations artists in partnership with the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Office (NATSIMO). 
LISTENING IN: Research Series (Creative Australia) 
Listening In: A series of three reports exploring live music attendance, music discovery and consumption by Australian audiences. This study investigates Australians’ engagement with Australian and international music. The work is being conducted by Creative Australia’s research team in collaboration with several industry partners and contractors, including Untitled and The Push. 
More Than A One Night Stand Sessions (triple j) 
A suite of capacity building initiatives delivered by a range of music service organisations leading up to and following the revival of triple j’s One Night Stand festival. Designed to engage with the local Warrnambool community, the programs included bespoke industry training, panel sessions, songwriting workshops and an industry forum. 
Music Australia International Conference Contribution (MAICC) 
An export program aimed at strengthening global networks, growing market knowledge, and building capacity for Australian music industry professionals. MAICC provides contributions of up to $5,000 to support travel, accommodation and registration costs and has been devolved to four relevant industry peak bodies to administer in partnership with Sounds Australia: Managers (AAM), Independent Labels & Distributors (AIR), Agents, Programmers & Bookers (ALMBC), and Publishers (AMPAL). 
Rates and Practices in Art Music (Cameron Lam) 
To establish a snapshot of the current commissioning rates and commissioning practices in industry across Australian creators of classical, jazz, improvised and experimental music, and sound art, referred to collectively as art music. The intention is to build a template which can take snapshots over time, allowing for the analysis of data trends in the future.  
Record Label Development Scheme (RLDS) (Music Australia) 
A grant program to support Australian labels that are actively discovering, developing, and promoting local talent. The investment will ensure Australian labels of all sizes, and with different genre focusses, can continue to compete effectively, support their artists, and contribute intrinsic value to a vibrant music ecosystem in Australia. 
Regional & Remote Music Summit (AMIN) 
A music industry conference for industry experts, artists, policymakers, academics, and community leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities happening in music beyond the capital cities. The inaugural Summit in 2024 was held in Darwin and delivered by MusicNT, with the 2025 Summit to be delivered by MusicNSW in Byron Bay.  
Soundcheck: Australian Music Festivals (Creative Australia) 
On Tuesday 9 April, Creative Australia released Soundcheck: Insights into the Australian music festival sector. This research was an action in the National Cultural Policy, Revive. The first of its kind, Soundcheck looks at the social, cultural and economic impacts of music festivals, the scale and scope of the industry, as well as the barriers and challenges for organisers in putting on an event. 
Soundcheck Two: Analysis of Australian music festival models and operations (Creative Australia) 
Soundcheck Two: Analysis of Australian music festival models and operations reports on findings from this second survey, providing additional detail regarding the variability of the festival landscape. The report highlights how different festival models are being impacted in different ways – and to different degrees – identifying five different ‘types’ of music festivals in Australia: large commercial festivals, small commercial festivals, touring festivals, large not-for-profit (NFP) festivals, small not-for-profit (NFP) and government-owned festivals. 
The Music Writer’s Lab (MusicNT) 
The Music Writer’s Lab is an initiative to amplify the development of a new generation of music critics. It seeks to facilitate critical discussion of music culture and explore new distribution partnerships. It also exists to celebrate established critics and create a deep appreciation for Australian writing and music. The program is designed to support and develop the critical perspectives of people of marginalised voices, including women, non-binary people, and all gender identities from across Australia.
