About the program
Seeking to develop your board’s ability to support your organisation’s ambitions?
The Company Director Capability Fund for Organisations supports arts and cultural organisations to enhance governance capabilities. Organisations can apply for a flat rate of $6,000 to support training for company directors and key staff with the following providers:
- Australian Institute of Company Directors
- Institute of Community Directors Australia
- Governance Institute of Australia
- Justice Connect's Not-for-profit Law
- Small Giants Academy
You can choose from a range of training services offered by these providers to meet your organisation’s own specific governance capability needs and learning preferences. In-house training and public courses from the above providers cover the roles and duties of company directors, financial management, conflict resolution, supporting wellbeing and safety, succession planning, effective communication and more.
Why are we running this Fund?
Across 2022, 2023 and 2024, Creative Australia funded 170 arts workers to participate in courses run by the Australian Institute of Company Directors to support governance capability. In addition, we commissioned a series of panel discussions curated by Diversity Arts Australia exploring arts governance, and launched the Governance Hub in September 2024 to provide free access to guides and templates for policy development.
The aim of this Fund is to build on this investment and continue to support company directors and key staff members of arts and cultural organisations to develop the skills, knowledge and mindsets that support best practice governance.
Research by Creative Australia with the Institute of Community Directors has shown that organisations thrive when they are supported by board members who have a strong understanding of fiduciary responsibilities, and are able to apply that knowledge in the specific context of the organisation they serve.
Creative Australia’s Governance Hub supports organisations to improve their governance with free guides, templates and case studies.
